For Veteran's Day this year, we decided to go hiking at Usery Pass. I had my heart set on Windcave Trail, and despite the ranger's warning that it was super crowded and long, we still took it on with all five kids in tow!
The kids were super excited, though Jordan and JD woke up the night before and told us they were too scared to hike a mountain. It wasn't all the steep honestly-tons of switchbacks, and just really rocky. The kids did really, really well, as usual, I was impressed with their hiking talents-"no fear" style.
James is probably getting too big for his carrier unfortunately. We might start to consider getting a hiking backpack. He did so very well in the carrier regardless-he loved watching the kids scale the rocks, and he started cracking up at them on multipple occasions!
Sara was so funny on the trail, she hiked the entire thing on the way up and only had to be carried maybe half the way down. She insisted on stepping on as many rocks as she possibly could. She kept up a running commentary the whole time on rock size, the different cactus, and how the other kids kept leaving us. She had a great attitude!
James fell asleep about halfway down the mountain-it was so adorable, since he rarely falls asleep in my arms any longer. I was savoring the moment.
We tried to take a final family picture at the base, but the lighting was all wrong in this spot! I took a shot of Jared with the kids anyway, and I ended up loving this beam of light coming down on them! Angels on the way? Who knows!
We got to the base of the mountain and I told the kids to rest on the bench for a few minutes. Resting for JD and Jordan means climbing on the bench goat-style. These boys never give it a rest!
We played on the park for a while before taking off. This next picture happens to be my favorite of all time-such a SWEET picture of Daddy and Daughter!
Karianna does such a good job babysitting James! James, however, is scared of the slide. Doesn't matter if he is nice and secure in someone's arms-he cries when he slides. Hopefully that will change at some point!
Too bad this picture didn't turn out better, it was a cute idea! We had a great time hiking together!
